Carpenter or Roofer for internal roof structure repair?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.17 PM

I’ve just created a job to invite trades to quote but not sure whether a roofer or carpenter would be best to view the job. Some of the structural support beans inside my room seem cracked and damaged, likely need strengthening. I can see the posts have slipped a little from where they once were. What do you think of the job? Who is best to quote and do the work?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Get out of the room as soon as possible as if is structural you may be in danger. Then, seek out foremost for a structural engineer bar that an experienced builder who has dealt with building houses/extensions.

I agree with whites carpentry, a structural engineer should be your first port of call if the structure is moving it likely unsafe only a structural engineer can answer that.

You would definitely require a carpenter / Builder to do this type of work. If you are unsure about the condition of the timbers and how they have dropped then you could also employ a structural engineer to give you more piece of mind. To strengthen the floor or ceiling you can install like for like timbers side by side to the existing ones or even thicker timbers but that may depend on the space you have. Have someone give you a written instruction of their proposal for this job. Good luck
