How to blend plasterboard and vinyl coated walls together

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

I have just removed a suspended ceiling and I now want to paint the (extended) walls. The bottom part of the wall is plasterboard but the top part (the part which was behind the suspended ceiling) is a vinyl-coated plasterboard. I want to paint the wall so that the two parts are blended together. Any idea on how to do this? Or will it be obvious that this is two different materials? So far, I'm thinking that I need to "mist" the plaster (half water and half paint), then put primer over everything, then paint a couple of thin coats. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I think if you use a high adhesion primer such as Zinsser Bullseye 123 you should be able to get a decent finish that matches. I'm not sure about the join between the two types of plasterboard but you ought to be able to fill and sand. After the primer you can use anything you like.

Just key up vinyl with 80 grit, paint as normal, vinyl may need more coats
