Ugly gap between door stops and architrave
Anonymous user 13/03/2024 - 2.31 PM
I Rrcently had fire doors hung. Because the new door stops are thicker, it juts out of the architrave and there is a gap between the door stops and architrave. What's the best way to finish it to a high standard? Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sand the area and dust off, then use a tube of painters caulk which will fill the gap, smooth off with your finger. Then when it dries you can paint over it, or you could buy smaller door stops. Hope this helps you.

I think you're mixing up the terminology here. The door stops shouldn't be touching the architrave anyway.
Door stops sit inside the frame/door-lining and stop the door from swinging all the way through (hence the name)
Architrave sits on the outside of the door lining covering the join between the lining and the plaster.
If you're correct and the door stops are too wide, so that they protrude past the door lining then you should remove them and fit a new set that suits.

Either the doorstops are too wide (more than 25 mm) or the linings ( and the wall itself) are too narrow - which is hardly possible (less than 70mm?) it seems likely that the doorstops are wider than required which is 25mm x 25mm. Take off & replace. May not be easy as they should be glued & screwed.
