New guttering and fascias dripping after rain

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hi I have just changed my very old guttering and fascia to whole house which is an end Victorian terrace, prompted by a leak in the kitchen and I’m left with a couple of issues. After rain has stopped or virtually stopped I can hear dripping from the front top corner at the gable end, this is like Chinese water torture as it’s in the main bedroom and the sound radiates into to the second bedroom. What’s the likely cause of this? I noticed when they changed this they have accidentally knocked a corner brick out near the top. I was prompted to get this work done as I noticed I got a leak in the corner of my kitchen, this is still drying out, so still feels damp but the exterior wall near the leak still appears to get wet during rain which surely shouldn’t happen. This is where the soil pipe is (which I’ve checked isn’t leaking from showers or toilet flushing) the roofer said as it’s a soil pipe he wouldn’t be touching it but it does have some guttering connecting into it, which he didn’t replace, a hood I think it’s called and a swan neck. Should he have changed this and could this be the cause? I’ve noticed the sloping guttering above this, which they changed has a gap of light between gutter and wall, is this playing a factor too? My final question is the new rubber flat roof they fitted seems noisier too when rain has stopped with rain drops sounds v loud, is this normal? Sorry for lots of questions, just trying to get a better picture of things before I get him back.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, I believe the problem is caused by the flat rubber roof which you had fitted. I think this is why you have a leak in the kitchen. I don't think the corner brick is a big problem because you still have a cavity. I hope this is helpful but I can't be 100% unless I view the situation myself. Kind regards.

Hi Grantham fascia here Sounds like the problem is if you can see a gap between guttering and fascia it doesn't sound like a felt tray has been fitted also rain water shouldn't go into a soil pipe
