Replace lintel above front door
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM
Hello I have an oak lintel above my front door that has completely perished and is rotten. This has caused water to leak through the ceiling. How long would this take to replace. The house is old but not listed. Thanks

Depending on the condition of the brickwork above the lintel and if they are in good state and accessibility is ok replacing and plastering should be done in a day obviously by someone who knows what he’s doing

If the lintel is easily accessible & brick work around it is in good order 1 day should be sufficient
I would place slate around back, top ,side & bottom of replaced lintel to keep the moisture from seeping into the brickwork & then into the house over time
