Plastering & Rendering

Is it okay to cook whilst waiting for plaster on kitchen ceiling to dry.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM

The contractor is taking 2 weeks between each appointment whilst doing our kitchen repairs after an escape of water insurance claim. I understand the plaster needs to dry but, is it okay to cook whilst the ceiling is drying? Also, if cooking is okay, how long can the plaster be left to dry before painting? I’m worried grease may get stuck to the ceiling. The plaster is about 3 cm deep in places where repairs were carried out.

The plaster won't take long to dry and if it absorbs grease you could just clean it once dry before you paint with sugar soap

With the plaster being 30nm deep it will take a bit longer to dry , if you find any grease has coated the ceiling ,you’ll find that you have to stain block it as the plaster will have absorbed it as it’s not sealed it won’t come off with sugar soap , you can buy a can of stain block from local DIY store £10-£15 .

At the most the plaster should not take anymore than a week to dry completely grease takes a long time to build up that shouldn't be a problem. Give the area a 50/50 coat of paint/ water and then paint normally.
