Reduce the size of an inglenook fireplace
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM
I have a large imposing inglenook fireplace in my house (built circa 1990), I am looking to reduce the size of it by bricking up the internal sides to create a smaller opening. There are 2 wide pillars either side which I would like to remove the front row facia of bricks and plaster over. The chimney breast is external and we don't plan on touching that part. At present we have a gas fire (wood effect burning stove) in the recess and plan to leave it in situ. Can someone please let me know if this is a simple job for a builder or do I need to engage with a fireplace shop specialist. Thankyou
