Roof felting on pitch roof

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM

HI . I'm having my roof refelting. I have noticed big sagging in one area. Think that was caused by the roofer putting their foot or backside on it before they tiled. They also have not tape down between the overlaps. So inside the loft if I put my hand betweend the overlaps I can touch the tiles. Is this exceptable in today's standard. Tyvect was the roof felt used with integrated adhesive. But they didn't peel off the adhesive film. Is this bad practice or is this an option wether to use the adhesive tape on felt. What stankard should I expect? I have photos but this website does not give me options to apply them . Thanks for any advice

according to latest building regs the under felt is supposed to sag a bit between the trusses & not be to tight, as long as the over lap of the felt is sufficient & the roof tiles are correctly laid with the correct over lap taping is not necessary although if using a taped under felt its only good practice to use it as it will stop wind driven rain being pushed under the felt before tiling is completed good luck Alex

The felt is a secondary barrier so should be pulled tight to stop any potential pooling. There should be a minimum 6 inch overlap on the felt.

New roofing regulations state that the felt should sag slightly between joists. It is good practice to use the tape if present but not essential. I would imagine that the roofer has guaranteed the work and would confident that it isn’t going to leak because the laps are not taped. This obviously relies on the correct installation of the tiles and other components of the roof and correct laps on the felt.
