GRP Flat roof to ground floor bathroom extension, 3 months old..
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM
Had a new flat roof installed this summer. New facias, new gutter, OSB board, fibre glass (sanded), the GRP plastic solution applied. Within two months three hairline cracks appeared where the solution had been applied thickly and now the roof is leaking. Is there any way to fix this other than ripping it off and starting again? Just to update - thanks everyone for your answers. The contractor is back repairing the roof - sanding down and recoating it. We will see how it goes 👍

Hi
Smaller cracked areas can be repaired with a fibreglass membrane, which is basically a patch, or the whole area could be covered with a second coat but, if it was done only 3 months ago, you need to get back to the contractor that did the work and get him to put it right.
Although, the fact that it has cracked and leaked after 3 months would make you a bit concerned about having this contractor back ?

Hi I don’t install fibreglass we take lots off and install rubber or our three layer felt system. We see so much were it has broken down split or come apart and lifted off the deck. We have flat roofs out there which have been on for thirty years plus and still fine inspected each year on maintenance visits. Get it took off and done with rubber or felt.
