Moving downspout
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.55 PM
Hi I live in a semi with shared guttering. My neighbour had the drain at his side which he has had blocked over when he had a concrete driveway. His across the drive neighbour is complains that water now runs onto his property and what’s the drain opening up. Can my neighbour move downspout into middle of property without my consent? . The water would not be on a drain but running straight onto my lawn I am worried about poling water and damp .

your best bet is to consult your local building inspector.

I would ask the owner who had the driveway done to rectify it and would ask to move the down pipe temporarily

Your neighbour cannot put the downpipe on to your property. He should not have had the drain covered up in the first place. As a good neighbour he should get the drain reinstated solving all the problems. Hope this helps

By law your not allowed to have water from a blocked drain or downpipe running into your neighbors land or council road. The only to solve the problem is to investigate why this is happening ( clear blocked drain ) or if possible fit another outlet that connects into another drain.
