new power supply to shed

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.55 PM

i currently have power going to my shed, taken from a spur from a socket ring, im not comfortable with this arrangement, as we would like to run our hot tub, power tools and lawn mower which i beleif takes us why over the wattage for the mcb for the socket main, if all equipment is used at once. unfortunately i don`t have a spare mcb in my consumer unit. can i add a second consumer unit next to my main consumer unit, run the armored cable out to the shed, then have another consumer unit to supply 2 x led lights, 2 x internal double sockets and 1 x external double socket

60 amp fused connection switch, join into tails , then run power out to shed , in shed mini consumer unit ,on/off switch and rcbos. , might also be good to fit earth spike

Yes of course you can do that, though have an electrician do the work for you. Regards, Carl.

Yes. Fitting new consumer units is really a job for an electrician though. You may find one that is happy for you to run power to the shed if they fit the consumer unit make the connections, and write you a certificate.

Yes you can add another unit. You will need to ensure the combined current draw of both units will not exceed the main fuse on the supply. Get an electrician to calculate your demand and see what they can do.

May be the easiest way is to take supply tails into henly block, you can then get 2nd set of tails into a fused switch or RCD unit, then run supply to shed from there. This work requires either having an isolation switch or removing the main cut-out, which has to be done by the DNO. This work would be notifiable to building control. Best to get electrician to advise you on the best method.
