Internal door frame repairs

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

Hi, Im wondering if rather than replace all the existing frames, is it possible to get repairs done on them and if so what trades person would this fall under exactly? The repairs are dents, chips in the wood and where locks have been removed etc Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Paul, For the dents and chips in the wood you would require a painter to remedy these, but for the bigger holes where the locks have been removed you would need a carpenter to piece some wood back into the frames followed by painting.

If the frames are going to be painted then most defects can be repaired without having to replace the whole frame, the best thing to do would be to take some pictures of the damage and send them to a joiner, handyman or a painter/decorator for advice.

The customer would hope to aim this towards the direction of Painters and Decorators but also Carpenters. We often have to make repairs to frames as some customer cannot justify the cost of replacing a full frame for the sake of some cosmetic damage. Wood filler will often be used, sometimes the frame can be cut if the damage is severe and have a piece of wood spliced in. Its best practice to request this from a Joiner/Carpenter whilst being quoted for door replacements or other works in the house. Often a Carpenter wont accept a job of just repairing a door frame, at this point, it would be best to go down the Painter and Decorator route.
