Brand new upvc patio door sticking
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.54 PM
I've recently had upvc patio doors fitted to an existing opening, 6' high x 8' wide. The sub-contracted fitter had great difficulty getting the frame in place, and now the door will only open easily 12 inches before I have to pull hard to open it. The cill is out by 8mm from one side to the other. I've only paid the deposit so far, but the directors of the company say that the door does open and there is nothing more they can do. Do I have to accept this?

No you don’t have to accept it. If they don’t work properly the problem is down to fitting or manufacture. It’s the company’s responsibility to sort this out by either re-fitting them properly or arranging a service call visit from the manufacturer.

No u don’t have to accept this. Doors and windows have a significant amount of adjustment tolerance so if there is nothing they can do to make it open then the installation is incorrect.

Did the company survey and supply the door or did you? If the company surveyed and supplied the door do not pay anymore money until it is correct. The door should be fitted plumb , level and upright to work correctly. It should be a smooth movement at all times. Sounds to me they may have made the door too tall so struggled to get it level when installing.
They should be Fensa registered or with another certification company. Take it up with them if you don’t get any joy

Don't accept this install. If they had trouble getting the frame in, this sounds like a miss measure and more likely there's a twist in the install. Politely ask them back to adjust, level & plumb the patio.

If is sticks out more one side than other it's not in straight plaster need knocking back until door sits same.if its sticking from top its either too ,tight in height, been packed on the head or even possibly too much foam pushing door head down.
Sounds like bad fit or rushed job
