can i move the hot water tank?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

Hi I just bought a tiny flat which is using a 2m x 2m airing cupboard to house a hot water tank and its pipes. The water tank sits right in the middle of the room. The airimg cupboard shares a wall with the bathroom As the flat is small I wanted to move the tank across to either the corner of the airing cupboard or to move into the corner of the bathroom (around 3m away). This way I can use the extra space. Im not asking for a combi boiler quote as the service charge in the flat includes heating and hot water. I only want to know if i can move the tank and pipe work please without needing permission

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

no not without permission, you will have to ask the owner or managing agent, and as it is a common heating and hot water system they would want their own contractors to do the work.

I agree that you would need to ask the home owner, but with their consent there is no reason that you can't move it. It would involve draining the system and putting some new pipework in. You should expect it to take a full day to do. if you do go ahead and want a quote I would urge you to include as many well lit photos of the existing pipework as practical to make it easier for the person to judge exactly what is involved and to get the most accurate price possible
