How long to leave skimmed walls til mist and colour?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM
Hello, Crown Paints have told me I need to leave my newly skimmed walls at least 6 months before I mist and then paint them with durable matt Crown paint, and if I don't the vinyl paint in the durable matt could all peel off. Is this right in your experience please? Many thanks for your time Mich

As soon as the plaster has dried (ie) gone from very dark wet pink to a dry light pink you can apply a mist coat of any contract Matt paint (Johnstone’s / crown / Dulux ) all do there own contract Matt (no vinyl in it) once that is dry you can de- nib the walls and fill where needed ! Rub down filler and mist coat filled area then apply two coats of whichever finish you require

If its an skim over an existing surface then as soon as 100% light pink then mist with paint for new plaster or contract matt. Let fully dry then crack on.
Sounds like they are covering themselves because the advice regarding painting with a paint that will fully seal, or a vinyl paper on a new surface for 6 months or whatever applies to walls rendered and plastered

All paints are the same if you have a new plastered wall you have to wait 2 weeks for the wall to fully dry, then you mist coat the the wall then apply 2 coats of emulsion you dont have to wait 6 months thats rubbish.
