Tv aerial cabling and facer plates

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

Hi So basically I'm in the middle of a home renovation. I want TV to be available in certain rooms, eg. Reception room 1, 2 and kitchen, First floor front and back bedroom. What options do I have. Will it be a case of running cabling to each of these rooms via floor boards, cutting into walls and ceiling to install facerplate. Also what if I got the old sky box, doubt this gives the option to watch different channels in multiple rooms. I may also consider running several Cat 6 cables in about 5 rooms to attach facerplate. Then make sure they run all the way back to a ethernet extension which will be connected to back of router. Please advise accordingly. Kindest Regards Ali

Ali, Why don’t you get an electrician? Everything you keep asking about could have been done in a day or two by a professional. If you want to run LAN cables to 5 rooms you will need to buy a switch. Get 1Gbps or higher. This will mean when our broadband speeds are finally increased to the same as those on the continent, you should have no problems. If you can, get one for your security systems, one for work/business use and one for personal use. Ideally they would all be capable of running a network firewall such as pf sense if thats out of budget make sure the one for the security system does. You can buy them preloaded with a firewall but they cost alot. If you have any online game players consider connecting that point directly to the modem not to a router so a DMZ can be created which will allow them to change NAT settings and do basic port forwarding, with out the risk of a possible attack vector for the whole network. This would mean setting your hub to modem only and attaching your own router in between the hub and the switches. As for cables, that totally depends on the house and how neat you want it. If you can use predrilled routes and avoid getting close to mains power.
