K-rend/silicone render for painted brick walls, typical steps involved and cost per sqm

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM

I have an old house 1900's with the rear walls painted. The paint is now flaky and look ugly. I am thinking of having them rendered rather than pointing. Forgive me I am not a builder (worse still, I am a woman) so I may ask silly questions: 1. I am thinking about the K-rend system or silicone render. Can someone kindly tell me: (i) if this kind of system is suitable for my situation. (ii) I read that 2 coats are needed with Stainless steel mesh...I dont know if this is right. A short description from an expert is appreciated. (iii) Should the old paint be removed to the bare brick first? 2. Any alternative system(s) you can suggest for long lasting and "maintenance-free". Thanks a million for your help in advance. Nicki

These are old soft bricks that will look very nice stripped back with a jet wash repaired and repointed in a proper lime mortar which. Will allow the bricks to breath and protect them from harmful sand cement with no lime,, if its a damp situation thermal insulation the type you Suggest ed with k render would be a modern solutions, it's drawback is that the surface created in k render collects soot exhaust and dust as the finish is not smooth more like minute coral also very expensive and not really in keeping with a 1900 s house if you. Decide to render make sure hydrated lime is applied in the render waterproofing for cement mixes two coat s of render a scratch coat is to prevent cracking as cement render will always crack if is applied to thick hope this helps personally I would not allow someone to apply sand cement render overvflacky paint have it jet washed first it comes off easy

All loose paint should be scraped first. I would use Fassa K-Over base coat, apply a coat then bed mesh into this, coat again, level off and sponge smooth, Fassa primer then Fassa top coat of you desired colour.

I'd paint it with a cement and unibond mix then two coasts of render with a water proof adaptive in the first coat then a fine finish
