Stair stringer coming out of celling in living room - what are my options?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM
Hi All - my stair stringer comes out of the celling in the living room, the developers have plastered over it but it still looks dreadful! I wanted to see what my options were in making it look better or solving the issue! All replies are much appericated.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi yes you have a tricky problem there , it's to do with the hight if your stair above you have to have a mimium of head hight at the point you leave the stairs at the top ring I expect the head room is low at this point and the stairs were placed according (lower)
If there's room at the top you could take the bottom up and out of the room below, it's a big job though and won't be cheap. measure the head height at the top of the stairs and see what you have it needs to be not much less then 2 meters.
If that's not an option you need to find a better way of hiding it the lower room that you can live with

Would not touch the string, due to strength!!! Later on it may affect the stairs. Such as squeaky.
Also depends on what part of the string, such as floor level area or stair line.
The best option would be check your floor heights and Consider dropping the ceiling, if not there boxing what’s never really attractive, unless you make some sort of feature.
Hope you come up with what suits you.
Happy building
