Painting internal of garage single block wall
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.37 PM
I want to paint the inside of my garage with white masonry paint, is it ok to do this before the external is rendered or will it cause paint to come away? Am I better off waiting for the external to be rendered first? The blockwork gets soaked through when it rains, Thanks

Hey Ryan, the external render shouldn't affect your internal paint

I would wait until the outside has been rendered, due to the time of the year and the weather, because if the outside is exposed and gets soaked, this could affect the inside paintwork. (Based on the assumption the blockwork being only 4")

If the walls have any moisture in them now then no don't paint them. After rendering if that does cure the water ingress then you can paint. But if they are already wet you will struggle at this time of year to get them to dry out completely before you can paint. If you paint when there is trapped moisture the paint will bubble and flake in time

Hi
Although you could use masonry paint inside your garage, the outside would need to be sealed i.e rendered, if not then the damp could penetrate and affect the interior paintwork.
