Knocking sound when hot water starts

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.36 PM

I have a combi oil boiler. When central heating is on and if I open hot water tap just at the start there is loud noise from pipes in bathroom, it happens just at the start there is no noise if water continues.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Pipes not clipped. Most common/Most Likely Pipes touching. To much pressure. Air ingress from any overflows, cylinders, PRVs or ruptured diaphragm in a expansion vessel.

Hi, It sounds like your hot pipes are touching timber or the like, when hot water runs through the pipe and it expands the pipe. The noise needs tracking to the source and pipes need to be lagged Hope this helps

Hullo. Yes, the pipes should be lagged if they are likely to freeze, and also they should be separate from each other and properly fixed. You might also want to bleed any air from the heating pipes as this can cause vibration and knocking. Tom's Team Ltd.
