Banging/tapping from the air vent from the boiler when it's windy

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.37 PM

Hi, I have a gas boiler and when it's windy I have a banging/tapping coming from the inside of the air vent. Is this dangerous? As I am worried. This only happens when it's windy outside no other times. Not put heating on tonight just in case. Please can someone let me know what this is to cause the banging..

Should not be anything loose in a flue pipe. Get a Local Gas Safe Engineer to check for your safety + peace of mind

Hi Amanda, It sounds like something is moving when the wind is blowing across the flue? There are no moving parts on boiler flues so it’s best to get this checked by a plumber with gas safe. Have you had your boiler serviced in the last 12 months? It would be best to get this done and any fault would be picked up on that service so at least you would then have a 12 month service and piece of mind too👍 Be sure to use a Gas safe registered plumber who will give you the performance read outs and safety certificate. Hope this helps. Rich

I agree that it should be checked out by a gas safe engineer , but it sounds like a vent issue not a boiler flue problem
