Raised Driveway

I’m building a raised driveway in front garden the dimensions will be roughly 6m long and 6m wide at a height of roughly a metre how deep should the footings be and will i need a hardcore sub-base for the footings at what depth??? Thanks

Hi, If you are raising the driveway just make sure that it does not exceed to damp proof course of your house. The finished level of the driveway needs to be a minimum of 150mm below the DPC. If it is pavers you are laying, you should have these on top of 40mm sharp sand and at least 100mm of hardcore. It really depends if the sub grade (soil below the the hardcore). If it’s soft I would recommend at least 250mm hardcore or dig to a depth where you reach more suitable soil before building. Hope this helps.

I would personally dig down 12” compact the ground in the footing then add a concrete footing with fibre reinforcement or a strip of reinforcement mesh of A192.You should be fine with that.Depending on what the wall is holding up I’d also build it twin skin or double brick.Hope this helps.
