How do I remove original back door step, lower the door frame and fill in resulting gap above door
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.37 PM
I have a 70’s built kitchen extension behind my garage. The door into the kitchen was originally the back door. The living room floor is higher than the kitchen floor. The original back door step was left in place which means I have to step up or over to get into the kitchen. What is the best way to remove the original step to lower the door frame and then safely fill in the gap above the repositioned door.

Take a course of bricks off bottom of door if the gap is to much use packing shims to bring it to where you want it then cement the gap.
As for the top as it’s timber the external and internal you could get a thin decorative trim to hide the gap, alternatively use timber on external and drop the plaster reveal on internal down to where it needs to be.
Hope this helps!
