How do I get central heating system certification?

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 2.52 PM

I am currently in the process of buying a property and the vendor has no evidence that the central heating system has been checked or serviced in the last 12 months, although he assures me the boiler was serviced in December 2011. What certification should I ask for to make sure that I am moving inot a house with a safe central heating system? Assuming that the central heating system IS safe and functional, how do I go about gaining such certification myself? Thanks for your time.

Hi, Sadly, very few private individuals have their boiler checked annually although the manufacturers advise this. If you are letting the building you do require, by law, to have a gas safety certificate each year.( If your boiler is gas, of course.) If I was in your position I would ask your vendor to provide a certificate as above, which will need to be from a gas safe registered engineer. This will give you some comfort as far as the safety of the boiler is concerned although it will probably give little idea as to when it will next go wrong! You say the safety of the central heating and I assume from this you mean the boiler element, as there is very little to worry about from a safety angle in the other parts of the central heating system. Having said this, if you have a hot water tank in an airing cupboard, it is a well to have the various thermostats checked to make sure the hot water is not boiling over into the cold water tank in the attic. Need any other help give me a call. Regards, Guy.

The safety of the central heating and I assume you mean the boiler side has little to worry about from a safety angle in the other parts of the central heating system. All of this can be checked by British Gas thay do yearly planned packedges at a very reasonable cost Need any other help give me a call.
