Resin Driveway problems

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi Guys I'm just wondering if you could help, Me and my partner run a surfacing and civil company for over 30 years, we had a customer that wanted there drive doing , so we done them a quote and they agreed to it, we laid tarmac first and then resin , 2 years later we have a phone call stating they now have a crack and are going to take us to court , we done everything they asked us and as the client was on a budget and had one small car , we helped her as much as we could , now its all our fault and we haven't done the drive properly , we have gone and looked at the job and there is a hair line, which we glued together but this is not good enough for them , we guarantee our work for a year and she is saying she is taking this further and has now gone on to a radio show and slagged us off, she has now got 2 cars on the drive and one being a 4x4 which was never there in the beginning , with the weather in England being so hot this year and the rain and cold we have , and with the heavier cars we cant help what happens 2 years on , can anyone help us with this as we dont really know what to do

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Morning, If its only a small job I would redo the resin drive then have her sign off on it & wash your hands off the job + get her to contact the radio show to say what a wonderful company you are coming back to resolve the problems.

From the perspective of a customer when you buy a driveway you would expect it be able to hold the car you have and any future car you may buy. Did you sell them the driveway as a product or did you sell it as materials and an installation service? If it is a product they have a right to a 6 year warranty. If it was materials and services they/you should be contacting the manufacturer of the material at fault which should also have a minimum of 6 years warranty. If you are found to have installed it incorrectly, they will have a good chance of claiming back the money paid. If you are found to have installed it correctly and the material is at fault it gets complicated but the easiest option is to get the manufacturer to refund/replace and make good the work at your own cost. You should be providing warranties as long as the warranty on the materials. If you do make good the work, try and get them and the radio show to apologise and maybe give you right of response. Citizens Advice would be best to help you. You could make this into a positive and get some good advertising.

Firstly I’d have any guarantee given in writing and explain no drive looks brand new for ever, if the drive was done to the correct spec with photos there should be no problem. If it was a small job I’d probably re-do it On good faith for free or at least meet halfway on costs

If there a crack in it .then that tell me the ground works was not deep enough. Could be roots where it crack . Take it all and redo it . For a year guarantee that not good enough has it not cheap product
