Removal of protective plastic
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
I wonder if you can help, I need to remove the protective plastic from my gloss kitchen cupboards, however, have left the plastic on too long and it's stuck fast to the cupboards. Can you recommend any products or professionals that can remove the plastic without damaging the gloss doors? Many thanks

The best thing to use would be lighter fluid. Make sure you are quick with it and use sparingly. Rub it under the film with a clean white cloth.
Keep the area and the cloth well ventilated and away from flames or heat sources.
Test is on a section that isn’t visible first.

Try warming with a hair dryer and then peeling. Don’t get to hot

The previous answer of using lighter fluid(extra refined petroleum) is good although there is a specific solution for this application. It’s called Tardis. It’s available from autosmart.co.uk. Alternatively a upc solvent cleaner will also do the job.

I have had this before the client forgot to remove the protective film on the end panel before using the hob and it had melted on. I used a decreasing kitchen cleaner and sponge with warm soapy water and it removed all without damaging the finish on the panel itself. Test a small area and don’t use the harsh stuff, just a general kitchen cleaner
