Taking out a gas fire.

We have just bought a semi-detached house that has a gas fire in the living room. We are looking to have the gas capped off & Fire removed... we are just wondering what else we need to do? Are we best hiring a professional builder to brick it up? We have read online that vents are needed. So many contradicting posts online. Do we need to remove the flue? The chimney does have a cowl fitted, does it need capping? Any advice is welcome.

Cardiff chimney sweeps

A cowl is good as it will still let air go down the chimney and prevent bird nesting. I would get it swept then if you are blocking up put a vent in so the air can circulate
