Shower goes cold and then hot water cuts off

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

We have moved into a new property and are having problems with the power shower (located in the ensuite bathroom). Both the shower and sink in this bathroom are linked to a pump (we have a hot water cylinder). After about 5 minutes, the shower goes cold. At this point, the other sinks in the house not linked to the pump still have hot water. We turn the shower off and 10 minutes later there is no water coming out of any hot tap in the house (the cold water is still fine). We can hear the cold water tank in the attic refilling for the next 3 hours. The shower is hot again after an hour or so and the taps start working again after about 15 minutes but obviously this is no use when two people need to shower in the morning. We are having the ball valve in the tank replaced and are also considering having the pump replaced. We suspect there might be multiple issues here but don't know if there is anything else we can do. The house is not that old (mid-1990s).
