Leak via new cement after heater fitted

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

About a year ago British Gas fitted a new Valiant combi boiler in our kitchen. As we had no boiler before they had to knock a hole in the wall to fit the exhaust flue. They filled it with cement and it has been fine since. We came back from a weekend away and found some water on the floor but had no idea where it came from. Yesterday, during some heavy rain, we noticed water pouring down one of the copper pipes at the bottom of the boiler. We checked and saw damp patches in and around the new cement. As we watched we saw drops squeezing out through the join between the new cement and old wall join. The warranty for the first year expired two days ago. Would this be something that BG are liable for? It only seems to leak in heavy rain but I'm concerned that if we have a hard frost that will cause any leaks to expand and make things a lot worse.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

How is it sealed externally? What angle is it at? The pipe should be higher internally than externally to force rain to drip down and it should have a silicone sealant externally. If British Gas installed the pipe they will fix it. ——— D&R is correct, if it’s a condensing boiler the flue needs to fall towards the boiler. I was referring to the copper pipes.

All Vaillant boilers come with at least a 7 year warranty, making BG responsible for manufacturing defects, breakdowns and installation issues.
