Mains power is off, shower light is still on

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hi With the mains power completely off, the electric shower's power light is still green and the shut off cable still has the red light on. The thought of free electricity coming from somewhere is great but how can this be happening? I've had mains power of for good 20-30mins and light is still on. ------- Thanks for your help. I've tracked down an additional unit that is solely for the shower.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi you might have a different consumer unit for the shower, sometimes if not enough room in the old consumer or old consumer might not have rcd switch so there might have a small 2 way board near main, Thankyou

Hello.. DON’T pull the main fuse, can’t believe you’ve been advised that! You may have another CCU somewhere, like already mentioned. Have a look around where your main CCU is. Another thing that springs to mind is that you may have a PME earth and you’re starting to lose your neutral. I’ve seen this happen before. You would need to call your DNO to resolve... maybe... or an electrician. Good Luck, Carl.

Are you sure that the main switch is the main switch for the entire Installation? If the shower has been installed as an addition to the original Installation then you may find a shower unit somewhere (like a small consumer unit). If this is the case then switching off the main switch at your main consumer unit won't isolate the shower. Have a look around for a shower unit, this may be at the main intake, i.e. at the meter box.

I don’t know by whom, where or when you were to advised to pull the main fuse. But, to reinforce Carl. Never ever do that! It can kill. Even qualified engineers don't do that without another person on hand with a wooden stick, just incase they have to pry a spasming corpse from it.
