Tiles popping and cracked grout

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hello, we had a new kitchen fitted in February this year once kitchen was complete our fitter then his employee started to tile the floor, still not complete as the lock down happened. With-in a week of the lockdown a lot of tiles were creaky and popping and then we noticed the grout cracking in a lot of areas. He has been back but with another guy to try and fix the problem. He said that the first guy must of used the wrong adhesive on the floor and the grout will crack? Now I’m back to waiting for them to get back to me about when they can fix the problem and finish off, they need to fix the popping tiles but said they won’t re-grout the whole floor just where they will lift tiles up. Please help is this the correct procedure to fix the problem or has my kitchen fitter not got a clue? Thanks for all the help. Update - the tiles are latex on to sub floor of kitchen but not concrete, there was ply wood under the Lino but they took this up before laying the tiles. The grout gap is 4mm and tile size is 200mm x 1200mm porcelain

i would recommend sealing the floor as there is a high suction drying the adhesive out

Hello. Before I can answer the question properly regarding "popping tiles and cracking grout" I need to know if the floor the tiles are on is concrete or wood and the size of the tiles and size of the grout joints. Many thanks Paul

Sounds like the floor wasn't level before they started, if not, they will be chasing it forever.

Slightly not enough information about their work. We need to know what is underneath the tiles. Going back to question if it's ok for them to fix just few tiles and re grout it, my answer is ABSOLUTELY NO!!! .Entire floor must be redone!
