Constant Call for Heat - Logic C30

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.16 PM

Hi, Looking for a little advice. I asked a question a few months back re a constant call for heat on my boiler. I just moved in to a new build and its a Logic C30. The boiler has a constant call for heat and so will fire every so often to keep the internal boiler temp at whatever the CH temp is set at. The actual radiators will only heat when I press the CH button on the programmer - I can hear the valves open and obviously the boiler then starts heating the CH water. I am no expert just DIY but I had a look and the timer link wire is still wired in to the boiler control panel (which the manual says will give a constant demand for CH). When I remove this the boiler will still heat the HW and finally is able to go in to standby (SUCCESS!) but when I then ask for CH on the programmer, again the valves open, but the boiler does not fire or even show a demand for CH (FAILURE). What I have noticed is that there are no wires from the programmer to the boiler itself (apart from the 230v power). The wiring only goes to the valves. I would have thought there should be wiring from the programmer to the timer input connector on the boiler control panel (where the link wire is??). So essentially I am asking whether this it is common for the programmer only to control the CH valves and not have any connection to the boiler aside from the constant 230v.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Cannot quite understand why you are having to trouble yourself with this issue Surely being a new build it is down to the builder / developer to deal with Contact them to resolve the problem

Sounds like it has been rushed. On new build estates they are expected to fit 3 or 4 in a day rather than 1 or 2 which often leads to mistakes and corners being cut. Contact a heating engineer like the above has mentioned, or contact the house builder if they are still covering the repairs.

The signal to fire comes to the boiler from the motorised valves once they are fully open. So both the timer/programmer and any room stat have to both be sending a signal to the valves, they will then motor to their “on” position which activates a micro switch sending a signal on their orange (usually!) wire to fire the boiler and activate the pump. Not all applies in a system boiler though as they incorporate the circulation pump internally. Probably best to get a qualified engineer to run their eye over the system and double check things are where they should be. Not uncommon to be wiring errors though. 👍
