Bricklaying & Repointing

Options for ugly pebbledash house

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM

Hi there, We have a mid terrace pebble dash house in Mitcham and really don’t like the way it looks. We have considered having insulation added over the pebbledash and then having it render but the quotes came in quite expensive so we want to know what are other options could be. If we were to remove the pebble dash and go back to brick, what are the chances that the bricks would be in an ok condition and roughly how much would this cost? Can brick/stone veneers be installed over pebbledash and how much would this cost? And is there anything else we haven’t thought of Please help!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Depending on how old the house is theres most probably blockwork underneath your render , you can take the pebble dash off & have it rendered flat . You can always have e look in the loft to see weather its brickwork or block work , not sure on prices but I hope this helps

The house will most certainly be built with brick as this was the method used when pebble dashing was the trend The pebble dash can be smoothed out with render over the top But if you are thinking of this in my opinion I would remove the pebble dash and start from scratch And probably go for k render which is completely waterproof

if walls are solid and there are no lose and not hollow then it would not be a good idea to remove the existing rendering you could use krender useing a matted scratch coat that comes in many colours and no maintenance

Hack off pebbledash and render smooth and paint.dont bother getting in the loft as you will only see internal block work
