Boxing in pipework
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM
Hello I have just had my flat decorated and want to have my heating pipes boxed in as in the past they have made my walls black where obviously heat has risen, Can this be done? I am in council accomodation therefore I have been told that the pipe covering would have to be done in a way that in the event of leaks /work it would be easily accessible
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Its pretty difficult to box pipes in, to make it all look neat, without sealing over with fresh decoration. If there is a leak (extremely unlikely?) then a plumber can always break-in and then you would have to decorate again, no sweat! The only place I would not enclose is around the valves of radiators and other valves.

Hello Vanessa, sounds like a simple boxing in job to me, by using hinges to make access hatches etc things are still easily accessible, this also stops any disruption to whatever way you may decorate the boxing in happening and stops any need to rip all the good work out. hope this helps.

Yes it can be done quite easily. Box in with some 12mm-18mm mdf and fasten down using screws and screw cups, so it can be taken on and off if needed

Use a moulded skirting board and screw cups. Attractive and accessible.
