2 inches of water in Solum

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM

We have just found that the solum area directly under our dining room (back of the house) is currently sitting in about 1 1/2 - 2 inches of water. We found it after our direct neighbour came to tell us of the same problem. Neither of us can see any sort of leak that might be causing this. The solum appears untreated bar some evidence of tar, it's an old John Lawrence style house in Glasgow. It's only the area directly under the dining room thats suffering this, every other area seems fine. I'm surprised by how much water there is and don't really know where to start with this. The thought of having to go the full hog of DPM, aggregate and concrete is scary as I know it will cost a fortune. Any ideas where to start with this sort of issue? My main concern is how much water there currently is down there!

A fairly reasonable answer could be to install a basic soakaway if it is just bare earth beneath your subfloor. Just means digging deep enough to install an oil drum, filled at the base with hardcore, then pea shingle & perforated at the base & lower quarter. Hope this helps, Chris M-W.
