Removing the base of a bay window second floor
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM
I'm looking to remove the base of a bay window in the small bedroom and convert the space into a working space. The bay window has a wall and wooden top which wastes space. Is it possible to move this wall at the bottom and what is the best way to do it?

Most things are possible but is it value for money. It would depend on the circumstances - can any cantilever be accommodated without expensive structural changes. Sometimes it is possible to use hidden brackets but that depends on anchorage and counter weight. This is not something you can get fully answered on this forum - you will need to employ a competent person to assess on site and provide an effective solution.

Give it a tap to see if its Hollow, if it is it will be studwork with plasterboard. If it sounds solid it will be dot and dab.. you may struggle to do anything with it.
