Bathroom Fitting

Installation of new electric shower

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM

Purchased new electric shower to replace an older version. Do I need an electrician to fit or a plumber?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You may need both, I personally fit them myself along with the plumbing, it’s no issue. Is the shower you have now a higher power (kW) rating than your existing? If so, it’s Part P notifiable, due to not being like for like. The cable “may” need upgrading if the power rating of the shower has increased. Do you have 30 mA RCD protection for the circuit? Manufacturers always stipulate that it must be installed. Your electrician will determine what will be required. Good luck with it, Carl.

Hi. As I qualified electrician and NVQ L3 plumbing. It all depends on how long the the cable Supplying electric shower is. Anything over 10 m should be 10mm. Twin and earth. Have a 40amp neon double pole Pull switch. With a B32 MCB.for 7.5kw. And B40 MCB for anything above.

Think that I’m right in saying that an electrician is mainly needed for this job due to a bathroom being a special location. The circuit would need to be tested and the customer issued with a certificate to ensure that everything is safe and correctly installed.
