LVT floor before or after kitchen fit
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM
Can you please advise whether lvt flooring should go do before or after a kitchen refit?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello in my own preference what I would do is do it after as you have the kick boards to hide the cuts but make sure you allow for the thickness of the flooring making sure you have clearance when installing the kick board.

Doesn’t really matter, a good fitter will leave the job so as that you wouldn’t be able to tell.
It’s easier to do it before, but you run the risk of damage during the kitchen installation.
If it was my house I’d do it after that work was finished.

Fitting before hand is more ideal for the fitter but fitting post install isn’t much more tasking to a good fitter. Fitting Post-install also prevents damage and stamping.
I will just add that fitting a larger fridge or utility may involve loosing a cabinet. Always good to keep in mind that you won’t have the issue of short flooring afterwards.

After kitchen is fitted , it's expensive and you would pay a lot for areas that won't be seen

Hi, I believe you can fit your flooring both before or after the kitchen install.
I like to install the floor after however if you have if you have a lot of kitchen end panels on show or a waterfall worktop maybe fit them after the flooring is down so you get a cleaner finish.

This is everyone’s personal opinion.
I like the lvt to be laid before kitchen goes in as I feel gives a more waterproof job.
Some fitters prefer laying lvt after kitchens gone in.
Ply is the most important or latex not to get wet .

Iv always fitted LVT in kitchens that have been fitted, you could fit it before the kitchen is fitted this would mean when coming to replace it you would have to cut out from around the units etc
Plus you take the risk of damaging the flooring when fitting the kitchen after,
Do it after a good fitter should have no problems.

Personally if you can afford to do the whole floor then do it! Have the entire room as a blank canvas, cleaned and fresh coat of paint and flooring and ceiling done. Then your hard work will have shone through when the kitchen is complete.
Second to this you can do the flooring after for cheaper however this means more cuts and if you havent done it before more reason to make expensive mistakes and a tatty finish.

I would definitely say after although yes it does mean more cuts for the fitter. there is less chance of the kitchen fitter potentially damaging tiles and when setting out the floor it would make sure you have even cuts where possible not just where they fall.
