Running copper plumbing pipe under new concrete floor
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM
Hi, We just bought a new refrigerator that needed plumbing We had to cut the newly built concrete floor and run a copper pipe from the dining area to kitchen pipe which is 2-2.5 m away. I’m not quite sure if the handyman did the right thing by keep the copper pipe open and has said it’s ok to cover up the cut by flooring(we are going for engineered wood). Can you pls advice on what should I do to cover the copper pipe and should I fill the gap in the cut with something? I’m worried now if there will be leak, I regret the whole thing now ! Please help

first mistake getting a handyman to do a plumbers job, how wide is the cut in the floor ? , you could have problems with dipping or cracking over the cut, if you fill the cut with screed you will have to sleeve or denso copper pipe to stop it being eaten by the cement in the screed, it would have been better installed with barrier pipe then you could screed over it, always use a qualified plumber.

A good joiner would be able to create a hatch door across the top of the channel if you are really worried about it.
D&R is spot on with his assessment.
