6, 9 or 12mm sub floor for lvt
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.34 PM
What is best practice thickness for ply sub floor 6, 9 or 12mm marine ply when installing amtico lvt flooring in a upstairs bathroom? My fitter insists on 6mm as this seems easiest for him. I have plenty room at the door to floor gap and 6mm just feels too thin. Can anyone advise please?

If the floor boards are descent 6 mm is fine if they are not so good 9 is usually better but you are best to get a flooring grade ply like fg1 or sp101 as the adhesive absorbs into the wood and you get a better bond, where as external or marine ply the adhesive sits on top and there is more chance of movement in the lvt and a lesser bond.

Amtico Lvt flooring when laid on a wooden subfloors requires an underlayment (double layer construction) with a minimum 25mm or 1” thickness.
6mm ply is the minimum thickness that can be used.

6mm is not enough for the floor to be stable. A minimum of 9mm plywood and you have a guarantee that amtico LVT flooring will be long
