Waste pipes from kitchen go into surface water drain instead of waste water drain.

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

I need some advice - the kitchen waste pipes (sink, dishwasher, washing machine) drain through a pipe going outside the front wall of our house into a surface water drain outside - situated in next doors driveway. It has been like this since we moved in 9 years ago - I was vaguely aware this was incorrect. (It was probably plumbed like this by a diy previous occupant of our house!) Now the surface water drain pipe is becoming blocked & our neighbour would like us to correct the problem. I am very concerned that this will be a big job to correct: to fit the pipes to the proper waste pipes (somewhere underground?!). But it does need doing! How do I proceed on this? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Janet Foul water should not be going into surface or rainwater drains , the only solution is to locate the foul drain and make a connection there , depending on where your foul drain is located in relation to your existing discharge pipe will generally dictate the size / cost and scope of works Kind regards Daniel

Hi Janet Kitchen waste pipes are usually connected to the main stack, which in is connected to UG drain this sounds like it could be internal somewhere in a pipe chase and hard to reach if not been done before. Looking in to a sole trader or someone local sometimes can be cheaper than expected. Thank Connor
