Tiling

Did we get a good tiling job done on our tiles

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

We have hired a bathroom fitter who we knew would be meticulous so we trusted them to do a good job. However there are a few things that bother us. We have the same size tiles on the wall (60x30) and square tiles on the floor (60x60). When on the walls some corners of the tiles don’t seem to be straight. I have noticed discrepancies in grouting and also tiles are not flush to the wall and the tiler says that the tiles are bowing hence them not being flush to the wall. On the floor some tiles are protruding more than others. It’s marginal but I could notice that even stepping on them in my shoes never mind barefoot. What do we do?

It sounds like your tiler has not checked the range on your wall and floor or simply how flat the surface is. A good tiler will either attempt to flatten the surface before tiling (use bonding, self levelling etc) or use adhesive to provide a flat surface to apply tiles to in addition use of a tile levelling system will flatten a wall or floor. Your only option is to get it redone I’m afraid.

It’s common for tiles to be curved and also different sizes. If they are ceramic tiles they can usually be straightened using levelling clips and wedges, porcelain not so much.

It depends how much difference there is in the tiles, as ceramics can bow but with levelling clips that usually brings them pretty much perfect. And also with the lines not lining up, if your tiles are not vitrified they can be different sizes which will give you uneven grout joints or corners.
