Shower Pumps and pipes

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

Hi All, I am looking for some advice, i have just fitted a new bathroom, we have a gravity fed system and the hot water tank has previously been moved into the loft. I want to fit a bathroom pump to service bath, basin and shower. I am comfortable fitting the pump but have a few questions before i do. So firstly there isn't enough room between the hot and cold water tanks to fit an S flange so looks like i will have to fit a non return essex flange to the side, currently hot feed comes from the top of the tank up to the vent pipe and it tees off to the hot water supply for everything. With my fitting the essex valve what do i do with the pipe that's already there? Second they have the cold water feed from the cold tank that goes off and services all the outlets, there is then a dedicated cold water feed from the tank to just the shower, obviously with new fitting a bathroom pump i need them all of the same pipe so what do i do with the dedicated shower feed? How that makes sense. Matt

Hi matt, you seem like a very intelligent guy, If you have all the materials you require you are better off getting somebody in to fit it all labour only... what are you going to do if you do all this and you then have no hot water or you accidentally cross pipes or nothing works at all? Or a major leak you can't control and the work then costs you 10 times the amount because your ceiling below the tank is ruined and the water runs into multiple electrical appliances which now need replacing? With plumbing and electrical works I always say pay a professional.. all the work is then covered and you don't have to worry about it.

Can you not install the s flange at the top outlet of your hot water cylinder? Once you know your pump is protected from air bubbles you can then attach the pump anywhere where the hot and cold supplies are close enough (often in loft or airing cupboard). As for the potentially redundant shower outlet on your cold tank suggest you cut it back and install an end cap on it.
