Suspended timber floor (ground floor) bouncy
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.33 PM
HI, We have a house built in the 1970s and the ground floor is a bit bouncy. Its a suspended timber floor with parquet style hardwood blocks rather than traditional floorboards. We've kind of got used to it and it doesn't seem to have got worse over the last 6 years, but we'd like to sort it out now. Can you tell me what trade I would need to consult?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, there could be a number of reasons, if the flooring is on ground floor joists and you say the house is 1970’s then back then they usually spaced the joist 600 centres so the timbers could potentially sag which is causing the bounce. Now you have to put joist no bigger than 400 centres and this helps make everything structurally stronger. The other thing go it could be is the timber could also be rotting.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Aaron

A local builder should be able to help you with his knowledge to make floor stronger and take bounce out of the floor
