Can anyone inspect my installed wood stove and flue liner and sign off?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

I like to install a wood stove and the flue liner. I contacted my local city council and was told that I need to find a professional by myself to inspect my installed stove and flue liner. Then the building control officer can come to sign it off since they are not qualified for the inspection. Can anyone do this for me? Any suggestions/comments welcome! I understand it is the best for a stove company to complete all the installations but limited to our budget. I like to install flue liner and stove by myself. Thanks. Roy

Hi Roy, i doubt very much you will find a Hetas registered Installer who will certify someone else’s install as he will then be liable for the install. The flue needs to be swept first, examined and then the liner passed through the flue without issue and connected to all appropriate metal connections. The appliance will then need to be commissioned and a flue draft reading taken . It’s needs installing correctly by a competent person so everything conforms to regulations.

Totally agree with what Roy said definitely get it swept first and if local to me we can do that for you , the whole installation will have to be checked by a Hetas installer and if yiu have any paperwork for the installation would be a great bonus , I doubt very much yiu will get the liner signed off but the fire should be no problem

Agree with both comments, I am a Hetas registered sweep and installer, if you are in the Devon/ Cornwall area, I could inspect it, commission and say if it is safe , if it is, then building control will sign it off for you, as we are not allowed to sign off anyone else's work.
