Coating and protecting a bare, rough stone wall inside a new shower area.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.54 PM

How to coat and protect a stone wall inside a shower I am installing a walk in shower but one wall inside the cubicle is a bare, rough stone wall mortared with lime. The other side of the wall is a roof void. What should I coat this with to prevent water penetrating from the shower into the stone and mortar? I am looking for a white finish and want to retain the rough stone look, preferably mould resistant and easily cleanable. Thanks.

Lime needs to breath and should never be sealed. Stone and lime are natural materials that need to breath just make sure you have plenty of ventilation to allow the excess moisture to escape

As someone else said, lime needs to breathe, your best bet would be to use some microshield on the stone work as that should stop any water penetration and still allow the lime to breathe.

The lime won't stand regular water soaking and it needs to breath. I would put a glass shower panel in front if it to protect the wall as you will never seal it properly but still be able to see it.
