Gravel drive puddles at front
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.54 PM
Hi im in process of laying a gravel drive It goes down hill from house, im up to the hardcore stage, but when it rains i have 3 puddles where drive meets pavement (its 5cm lower so gravel grids and gravel are flush with tarmac pavement), do i dig down and add more hardcore, dig even further and put rubble down as small soakaway or leave it hoping gravel grids and 5cm gravel will cover it? Cheers Greg

Best thing to do would be to have a sheet material sloping down to a drain.
Or tarmac sloping down to a drain.

Gravel on a slope will always move and puddle,so i agree with a tarmac ending at the slope bottom and a drain across the width also

You are absolutely right Gravel will be impractical for a driveway with a slope like that’ Quite apart from the topping up of chippings Because they will Naturally roll downhill,When someone drives over it or when it rains hard there will be an health and safety aspect’ Shoes would sink into a thick layer of chippings on a slate like that and if you use to thin of a layer of chipping’s they With roll on the hard standing ground Preparation underneath.
