If you dig down abit and have the gravel flush with the top tread it will stay in place. You will always get stones being kicked onto the steps no matter what you do.

Good morning, if gravel is used on slopes I would recommend that you use gravel grids, this is a hard wearing honey coned grid that holds gravel in it's place. Also I would recommend that you use 20mm gravel that way there is less chance of it sticking in the grips of your shoes.

Lay slabs to form more steps on slope
. Gravel at the top of steps are not a good idea especially on a slope as they will always end up being scattered down steps making a trip hazard

Hi, if you wanted easy you could try gravel/grass grids (google it) or if you wanted permanent you could go down an epoxy route, you would need a hardwearing external use epoxy so it could get expensive depending on area, hope this helps?
