Shower waste issues

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

Shower tray fitted with fast flow waste. Problem is for the first 3 or 4 mins the shower tray just fills up to near over flowing. Then whoosh all the water disappears . Then it runs fine for 2 mins and then fills up again for 3 or 4 mins and agian it just starts to empty . Waste pipe from shower is one of them flexi ones which runs straight then a 90 bend and then straight pipe to the stack. Any help advice ?

Hi, Some traps can’t be used with those flexi connections. The Wirquin fast flow traps cause air locks with these flexi connectors.

sounds like the flexible part is a self sealing waste valve, get a qualified plumber to look at it.

to work properly would need the correct fall, and if possible, replace the flexi with a pipe...an swept elbow would help if there’s a knuckle one in place..

Hello, The first thing to check here would be that the fast flow wasted is seated properly and water is able to flow freely and without obstruction such a debris etc The second thing would be to check the installation of the pipework And waste underneath, check that the flexible shower Waste hose Falls away rather than rise up and then check the waste pipe downstream aswell. Thirdly, inspect then main stack fully and check other outlets to ensure they are not struggling to flow away, Does the Soil stack Incorporate an air admittance valve ? It’s more common then most people believe but drainage systems can begin to struggle for no reasons due to air attenuation within the pipework caused by positive and negative drain pressures. Air admittance Valves allow air into the system so air can flow behind the waste material to allow movement, they do not however allow air pressure out of the system which is a positive pressure which it sounds like you Drainage system Could be struggling from. I’d love to hear back on this one as it’s an intriguing case and if you have any further question please do contact us further. Kind Regards Billy Gibbs BG Plumbing And Heating

It sounds like its un supported or dipping down. I.e when the water starts it fills up the pipe then gravity works to empty it.

Flexible pipe is the problem as it moves with the weight of the water so needs replacing for solid pipe
