Chimney & Fireplace

Safest way to fill in first floor ash pit

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.53 PM

I've recently opened up an old fireplace in a first floor bedroom. However there is almost a foot of old masonry and rubble sitting in the void below the level of the hearth and floor. I would like to bring this up to the level of the floor and flatten it off somehow so that it can be carpeted over to create a small nook (I have no intention of using the fireplace again). Is there a best way to do this? Thanks in advance for any help!
